Saturday 26 April saw Saffron Walden & District Riding Club’s first outdoor show jumping event held at Bluegates Hall, Great Bardfield. After dry weather and showers the going was just about perfect and the day turned out to be warm and sunny all day.
In the first class of the day, the Novice, Emma James and Prince of Thieves won the pony section with a quick round beating Jasmin Barnard and Strider and Jack Peal on Charlie into 2nd and 3rd. The Horse section was won by Matthew Jacobsen with Farewell Florence who beat Tessa Olley on Bees Knees into 2nd and Katie Killin on Mr Ripley into 3rd.
The Intermediate saw wins for Ashley Cambell and Frantic Fred in the pony section and Jo Wilkins with Zeb in the horse section. Scarlet Baker on Montana Molly and Emily Duff on Jay Jay took the runners up prizes.
In the Small Open reigning SWDRC points champion Junior Robert Barker continued his phenomenal form on his old partner Just Mefys to take the pony section ahead of Anna Thompson and Black Magic. Hazel Simmons won the horse section on Billy with Emily Duff once again taking 2nd.
Robert Barker and Just Mefys finished the day with another win in the Open. Hazel Simmons and Billy this time took 2nd place ahead of Olivia Potter and Zimbo in 3rd.
Many thanks to everyone who supported the event and to everybody who helped make the event possible. Our next show jumping event is at Bluegates again on Sunday 25th May.
