Sunday 16 March brought about Saffron Walden & District Riding Club’s second show jumping competition at Green Farm in Stoke-by-Clare. This time the heavy rain overnight threatened to halt proceedings but with a large outdoor arena to compete on and an indoor arena to warm up in, the only problem was the shortage of hard parking.
The Novice class saw half of the class make it through to the jump off where it was Lauren Wilding on Capetown Crackerjack that cleared the course fastest to take the win, nearly 2 seconds ahead of nearest rival Nicci Davey on Gizmo with Jane Hood taking 3rd on Bella.
Lauren & Capetown Crackerjack continued their winning streak by also winning the Intermediate Pony class. Luke Bradley on Twin Cherish was placed 2nd while Ellie Berisford & Partial Eclipse were 3rd. Claire Engelmann & Tiny won the Intermediate Horse class ahead of Robert Barker on Just Polly and Luke Bradley again, this time riding Bailey, in 2nd and 3rd.
There were 22 starters in the Small Open with just over half of them making it to the jump off. Robert Barker on Iceford Spotty won the class just ahead of Olivia Potter on Zimbo. Harry Vanner and Thorpe Park took 3rd.
The final class of the day was the Open where Harry Vanner improved on his earlier placing to take victory. Laura Byford on Fun Time Frankie and Tessa Olley with Galaxy were placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Green Farm’s facilities once more proved to be superb, even if the parking was a little tight. Thank you to all the competitors who put up with the problem and supported us at this event. Thanks also go to everyone who helped at the event – we couldn’t run them without you! Once again the jumps were packed away in super quick time and we hope to keep up the good work at our next show jumping at Bluegates on April 26.
