Saffron Walden & District Riding Clubs sent two senior teams and one individual to the British Riding Club’s National Championships at Lincoln Showground on Saturday 09 September after they qualified at the area 8 competition back in July.
The Riding Test team of Lisa Spence on Annie Rose, Claire Engelmann on Daniel, Suzannah Engelmann on Mr Chubbs and Laura Martin on AKA B all produced respectable tests but unfortunately failed to impress the judges and were all unplaced.
Lisa Spence also rode Annie Rose in the individual Dressage. Here the judges were less harsh and Lisa rode a very nice test to finish 7th.
The Senior Open Show Jumping team were hoping for a good result having comprehensively won the area competition by a wide margin. After the first round the team of Jo Wilkins on Dockland, Rebecca Harvey on Legend of Tara, Lisa Spence on Douraj and Jen Whitton on Secret Source were in joint first place with 8 faults. The second round proved to be very hard to jump, with only a handful of competitors jumping clears, and Saffron Walden picked up a further 16 faults. Surprisingly our total of 24 faults was a very good score and indeed it turned out to be the second best score of the day leaving SWDRC in second place, having missed out on the top honours by just one fence! Lisa and Douraj were also awarded the highest placed ex racehorse award for this competition.
Well done to everyone for making it to the Championships and representing the club at National level and special congratulations go to the Show Jumping team.
