Saffron Walden & District Riding Club’s show jumping teams took on show jumping teams from other club’s all over Essex on Saturday 10 February and almost made a clean sweep.
The first competition of the day was a Junior qualifying competition for the British Riding Clubs Novice Indoor Show Jumping Championships. SWDRC had two teams entered. One team produced 8 clear rounds to make the jump off against a team from Billericay Riding Club. They then produced two more clears on route to a final score of just 4 faults to win the competition and qualification for the National Championships in April. The second team gained 3 clear rounds to finish in 6th position.
The next competition was a friendly Junior Intermediate/Open class where the team from SWDRC surpassed the opposition to take the winner’s rosettes once again.
Commendations go to Jo Wilkins for whom this was her first event as SWDRC’s new Junior Show Jumping Team Manager. Not a bad way to start – keep up the good work!
The first senior class of the day was also a qualifier for the British Riding Clubs Novice Indoor Show Jumping Championships. After finishing the first round on 0 faults, SWDRC’s team picked up just 4 faults in the second round to make the jump off against two teams from Billericay Riding Club and one team from Foresters Riding Club. Three more clear rounds secured a win for the club and qualification for the National Championships in April.
Last class of the day was a friendly Senior Intermediate/Open competition. Despite gaining 4 clears over the two rounds, SWDRC finished the competition on 16 faults and ended their run of good luck with 3rd place in this competition.
Well done to all team members and congratulations to those who have qualified for the National Championships on 14/15 April 2007 at Hartpury.
